Go East (四方馆) Review
Go East (2024) is a Chinese costume comedy-drama directed by Zhao Qichen, adapted from Chen Jian’s novel Xi Yu Lie Wang Fei. The story follows four individuals — Yuan Mo, A Shu, Wang Kunwu, and Yu Chi Hua — who embark on a journey for justice and their nation during the peaceful Daming Dynasty. Yuan Mo, a commoner from Changle City, becomes entangled in international affairs after an unexpected altercation with refugee A Shu. Assigned to the Four Square Pavilion’s western office, Yuan Mo matures while handling complex diplomatic issues, facing ridicule as “useless” but proving his worth through courage and resilience. With humor, friendship, and political intrigue, the drama blends lighthearted storytelling with meaningful themes of loyalty and growth.
